Welcome and thank you for your interest in a shadowing experience at UCHealth South Denver Metro area. UCHealth is proud of the excellent care we provide to our patients and values the opportunity to educate future clinical, administrative, and research leaders. This program allows you to observe health care professionals in action, learn about hospital operations, and gain insight into quality and innovation in patient care.
Please carefully review the information below before applying. These requirements help ensure a safe, educational experience while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety, security, and privacy.
Program Highlights

Shadowing is limited to 12 hours per calendar year.

Applicants must be 18 years or older.

Shadowing is an observation experience only. No hands-on patient care, procedures, or case advising is permitted.

Shadowing is voluntary and cannot be used for academic or clinical credit.

Applicants are responsible for coordinating dates and times with their sponsor prior to submitting an application.
Shadowing Application Process
Step 1: Find a Sponsor
Your application cannot be processed until you have identified a UCHealth sponsor.
If you do not already have a sponsor:

Visit uchealth.org.

Scroll to Patient Support (bottom of the page) and search for a doctor, location, or specialty.

Contact the provider or department directly to inquire about shadowing opportunities and confirm who your sponsor will be.
Step 2: Coordinate the Details
Work with your sponsor to finalize:

Date(s) of shadowing
-
Start and end times
-
Location/department
Step 3: Gather Required Documents
Have electronic copies of the following documents ready to upload:

Valid photo ID (Driver's License, Passport, State ID, or Visa).

Immunization records for MMR, Tdap, and Varicella (or positive titer results).

Proof of a negative TB test taken within the last year.

Seasonal flu vaccine record (required if shadowing October-May).
Step 4: Submit Application
- Complete the online application form and upload all required documents.
- If you are shadowing over multiple dates, submit a seperate application for each date.
Step 5: Application Review
Please allow up to 7 days for our team for review. We verify that:
- All required documentation has been submitted.
- Health records meet program requirements.
- Required information is complete and legible.
- The requested experience complies with program policies.
Step 6: Sponsor Agreement
After submitting your application:

Your Sponsor will receive a confirmation email containing a Sponsor Agreement .

The Sponsor Agreement must be completed at least 7 business days prior to the date of shadow.

It is the Shadower's responsibility to ensure their sponsor completes the agreement - Your application cannot be approved until your sponsor completes the Sponsor Agreement
Step 6: Receive Confirmation
Once all requirements have been approved, both you and your sponsor will receive a confirmation with:
- Instructions for picking up your shadowing badge.
- Guidance on where to check in and log your shadowing hours (required).
Additional Notes
- Applications must be fully completed and approved at least seven business days before the requested shadowing date.
- Incomplete applications or missing documetnation may delay or prevent approval.
- Shadowing may not begin until written approval has been received.
